The Cherry Creek North Neighborhood Association published
the results of its recent member survey. The top issue in the
neighborhood was Crime and Safety. Zoning /Neighborhood Character
was a close second with BID Retail Development well behind in 3rd
place. Next came Traffic Within the Neighborhood and Parking
nearly tied some distance further behind.
The new Lowry Medical Plaza office building has reached
completion in Cross Winds Business Park on Lowry Boulevard. The
2-story 34,000 SF medical office building is adjacent to the
78,000 SF Lowry Medical Center which was build in 2005.
According to Lowry Link, the Buckley Annex redevelopment
plan was scheduled to move to the Lowry Redevelopment Authority (LRA)
planning review process, starting with a combined meeting of the
Lowry Planning/Disposition Subcommittee and the Community Advisory
Committee. However, due to comments and questions raised at a
neighborhood meeting and by Councilwoman Marcia Johnson, the LRA
has extended the process. The LRA will investigate the financial
implications of the heights and density represented in the plan.
Neighbors argue that the 6 and 7-story residential buildings
proposed for the site are too dense. The site is at the SEC East
1st Avenue/Monaco Parkway. The Air Force plans to sell the site to
an as yet unselected private developer after the zoning is
approved. The parcel is not a formal part of the Lowry
Redevelopment, but it is subject to the LRA development review
process.
Western Development announced that NorthCreek, the new
retail and residential development on Fillmore Plaza in Cherry
Creek North has leased 3,000 SF to Hermes, the French
luxury store known for handbags and scarves. The former Chase Bank
building has been demolished and construction of Phase III of
North Creek is underway. Plans for Fillmore Plaza itself have not
been announced.
Bill Husted in the Denver Post reports that Chinook Restaurant
is moving from 3rd/Detroit to Greenwood Village. The owners,
Clemens and Manfred Georg wanted to try moving from garden level
to street level space complained that the neighborhood was
changing from rich to very wealthy with many empty homes.
Neighborhood Flix has opened in the Tattered Cover complex
at the former Lowenstein Theatre on Colfax Avenue. The 3-screen
complex is reported by Life on Capitol Hill to have comfortable
seats with trays and cup-holders, spacious aisles and a gourmet
menu with entrees from $7 to $11 to complement $10 movie tickets.
The Oakbrook Corp. closed on the sale of its 411-unit Uptown
Village high-rise apartment complex located at 300 E. 17th Ave
in Denver to Maxx Properties for $74.2 million - $180,000 per
unit. Amenities include a fitness center and swimming pool,
24-hour maintenance, hair salon and parking. Maxx Properties plans
to make a substantial investment in upgrades to the property
C4 Investments has announced an 86-unit apartment project for
south Denver. Set for the 1900 block of south University
Boulevard, the 11-story development will total 317 bedrooms and
have contemporary decor.
